POLTRONA FRAU
The imaginative world of Fornasetti and the craftsmanship of Poltrona Frau come together once again. Following the limited edition of the Vanity Fair XC armchair, the collaboration is renewed for Milan Design Week 2025 with a new and refined interpretation of two design icons: the 1919 armchair and the Isidoro trunk-bar. Poltrona Frau's artisan mastery in leatherworking transforms one of the Atelier’s most beloved designs, Ultime Notizie, where colourful butterflies flutter and settle on a composition of newspaper clippings, into a perfect trompe-l’œil illusion in true Fornasetti style.
ULTIME NOTIZIE
Originally designed in 1950 for a silk fabric, the pattern has been reimagined and revived for the custom-made design of the now iconic kitchen at Casa Fornasetti. All the newspaper clippings that feature fluttering butterflies are taken from international press coverage of the Atelier in a self-referential yet ironic game, with Barnaba Fornasetti reminding us, "Do not dwell on the news, because the news is fleeting.” This phrase is engraved on the plate of the 1919 armchair and the plaque on the Isidoro trunk-bar.
THE FARFALLE DECOR
Butterflies have populated the world of Fornasetti since his first experiments in the 1940s. The characteristic black stroke outlines their shape, and the skilled hands of the Atelier’s painters still follow the original colour schemes.
