THE ART OF CRAFTSMANSHIP ON DISPLAY IN VENICE

HOMO FABER

On the occasion of Homo Faber: An Island of Light,
the international exhibition dedicated to the applied arts and fine
craftsmanship, Barnaba Fornasetti presents a unique piece reinterpreting a
historic vase originally presented at the VII Milan Triennale in 1940. The work
is crafted by Barbini Specchi Veneziani, translating Piero Fornasetti's
original design into glass through the Murano tradition of hand engraving.

Organized by Fondazione Cologni dei Mestieri d'Arte
and Michelangelo Foundation, in partnership with Fondazione Giorgio Cini, the
exhibition takes place on the Island of San Giorgio Maggiore in Venice from 1
to 30 September 2026, under the artistic direction of Es Devlin.

Every reinterpretation begins with a dialogue with the archive. The original drawing reveals one of the most emblematic juxtapositions within the Fornasetti imagination, where the natural world is transformed into a poetic vision.

For Homo Faber, the decoration takes shape as a unique piece: a work that is both timeless and contemporary, where white enhances the delicacy of the line and the luminosity of the glass.
