The Fornasetti Atelier in Milan is an outpost of careful and accomplished craft production. Here skilled craftsmen and women use the same rigorous handcrafted techniques as were employed on the very first Fornasetti products. Colour is applied by hand and the original paper patterns are still followed. Maintaining the quality of these methods of making is an important aspect of the Fornasetti legacy.
The majority of the furniture and objects produced in the Atelier are true re-editions of the original designs created by Piero Fornasetti. Objects referred to as ‘Re-inventions’, are designs created by Barnaba Fornasetti using the decorative elements and imagery found in the immense Fornasetti archive and are evolutions of the exclusive production of his father.
Tema&Variazioni
Piero Fornasetti returned to one particular motif again and again: The face of Lina Cavalieri. This image was chosen by Fornasetti for the same reason he chose many of his now iconic archetypes: because of its classic, formal beauty.
The collection of images ‘Tema e Variazioni’ includes 350 variations of this motif. These can be found adorning all manner of Fornasetti objects, including re-Inventions.:page.61
Custom made
The Fornasetti Atelier regularly produces bespoke items; furniture or personalised porcelain for example, at the request of clients. There is also the opportunity for new, bespoke, shapes or new sizes of objects to be especially created for clients. Such unique commissions are carried out under the direct supervision and approval of Barnaba Fornasetti, ensuring each product meets the exacting standards that characterise Fornasetti products and that each is a true interpretation of the Fornasetti style.
